The Science Learning Partnership

L. E.A.D. Teaching School Hub is proud to work in partnership with The Priory Federation of Academies Trust, designated as a High Performing Science Learning Partnership and Specialist Delivery SLP and a Lead School for The Institute of Physics. They are one of only nine Specialist Delivery SLPs in the country, with a specific remit to support physics education nationally and regionally.

The Priory Federation of Academies Trust, leads as a Science Learning Partnership, Specialist Physics Delivery SLP, Institute of Physics Lead School and STEM Club Champions within our region. This includes face-to-face and remote CPD as well as training, consultancy and networking to primary and secondary schools and colleges in Greater Lincolnshire.

Currently all networks, Subject Leader Development meetings and CPD are offered remotely and there are plans to offer a blended approach of remote and face to face sessions from the Autumn term. Remote Networks and SLDMs are held every half term and are usually between one and two hours in duration. Face to face sessions are either half-day or whole day meetings. Remote CPD provision to science teachers, technicians and support staff takes the form of (usually 3) one-hour remote sessions with participant gap tasks. All our programmes and projects are designed to have a positive impact on participants to ensure that we have a high impact on the STEM education of young people. To deliver positive impacts on young people the Science learning partnership works with teachers and support staff engaged in STEM education across Lincolnshire to help improve subject knowledge, pedagogy and leadership.

The suite of CPD for secondary and primary schools and FE colleges includes face-to-face sessions meeting the needs of new to science leadership, more experienced teachers of science & Senior Leadership Teams wishing to improve science outcomes at a whole school level. We can also offer bespoke consultancy support to individual departments, schools or MATs.

As an IOP Lead school, work has been undertaken collaboratively with secondary schools in the local area (‘partner schools’), specifically in the provision of CPD activities for teachers in those schools. This takes the form of a series of 6 twilight sessions per year to upskill teachers in delivery of areas of the physics curriculum. Working closely with the LA, local partners and the IOP, schools are recruited in line with the agreed criteria for SPN partner schools.

The designation as a specialist delivery SLP for physics means that the SLP works with local and national providers to:

  • increase the uptake of physics post-16;
  • increase attainment at KS4 and KS5;
  • improve the quality of teaching at KS4 through upskilling of non-specialists, focus on practical skills and working scientifically;
  • improve the subject-specialist support for early years and primary audiences;
  • provide support for the teaching of mathematics in science.

As STEM Club Champions, the focus is on growing and developing STEM Clubs in Lincolnshire. Schools are encouraged and supported to set up and develop STEM clubs, with the aim of improving understanding and enjoyment of STEM, as well as progression and outcomes for young people.
